Import Stats from Google Analytics
If you're looking to make the switch to Proxima Analytics but don't want to lose your historical data, you're in luck. With our backports feature, you can easily import your existing data from Google Analytics into your Proxima Analytics account. This allows you to keep all of your previous analytics data while still being able to take advantage of Proxima Analytics' powerful features and superior privacy protections.
To backport data from Google Analytics to Proxima Analytics, there are a few easy steps to follow.
- First, navigate to the Backports to Proxima section in your Proxima Analytics account settings, and click the Import Google Analytics button.
- You will be taken to a Google authorization page where you can grant permission for Proxima Analytics to access your Google Analytics data.
- Once authorized, you'll be redirected back to Proxima Analytics where you can select the Google Analytics project you want to import data from using the dropdown menu, and then click Confirm Import to initiate the process.
The amount of data you have will determine the duration of the backport process, which will run in the background. However, for most sites, the process should take no more than a couple of minutes. Once completed, you will receive an email notification.
Google Analytics Backporting Limitations
Importing data from v4 Google Analytics projects is presently unsupported due to API limitations of Google Analytics. Nonetheless, we are actively working on developing a solution to this issue, and plan to make it available in the near future, particularly as the Node.js API becomes more mature.
Furthermore, even for v3 projects, we have a limitation on the number of properties from which data can be imported - a maximum of seven. In the event that users wish to initiate a backport of their data, they will be prompted to select the specific properties from which they want to import datapoints.
What is the Volume of Data Being Imported?
The imported data is aggregated for each date, starting from the date of your first visitor on Google Analytics up to the date of your first Proxima Analytics visitor. This approach helps to avoid any instances of double-counting visits.
The time frame for which data can be imported depends on the data retention limits that have been set in your Google Analytics account. If you haven't specified any retention limits in your Google Analytics settings, then we can import all the data available from the date you first started using Google Analytics for the particular website.
You can verify the data retention limit that you have set for your Google Analytics property by accessing the Tracking Info section within your Google Analytics admin settings and selecting Data Retention.
